Week 6: Grammar, Quote, Question, and Lines

Essay Basics

Beginning of Class:

At the start of class today, Ms. Nakada assigned us different letters to get our seats changed. Once we all moved around and got situated, we all listened to Truman's wonderful blog about our day on Friday. When Truman finished talking, he got to pick someone to be the next blogger. Unfortunately, I (Caidyn) was betrayed by my fellow students and so called friends who chanted my name to be picked. This resulted in me getting to be the blogger for Monday.

Middle & End of Class:

When we all stopped chatting to our friends, Ms. Nakada told us to open our English notes and to write an Independent reading/ i-ready/ The Outsiders section. After the whole class wrote down what was needed we switched into the reader's/writer's workshop for a few minutes. Then Ms. Nakada told us to get our English Notebook out again to write our week six: grammar, quote, question, and lines.

During Grammar, we continued our sentence study of learning types of sentences. For example,

Fanboys: for, and, nor, but, or, yet, so and ;

Then, we followed up with our Quote of the week which was:

"Orgulloso means proud in Spanish. I am orgulloso being Latino, orgulloso being from Mexico, and orgulloso being me." - Cristo Hernandez

As a class we discussed what this Ted Lasso actor meant by his quote and came to the conclusion that he's proud to be the man he is and his heritage. Ms. Nakada told us to continue the meaning of how it related to us. I personally related to the quote's meaning because I agreed that we should never be ashamed of who we are as a person. Ms. Nakada was about to switch to the weekly question, but Sage raised her hand and told us how she related to the quote quickly saying you should be proud of yourself no matter your gender or sexuality.

 We lastly transitioned into our question of the week which was:

What are some authentic ways to celebrate Latinx Heritage month?

As a class we answered the question and then wrote it down in our notes. I wrote that we can celebrate Latinx Heritage by food, celebrating with friends, and lastly speak Spanish or learn more about it!

Lastly for the day, we were going to learn Essay Basics however, the bell rang which meant class was over!
