The bell rings, and everyone settles down in their seats. Ms. Nakada puts up the meditation video, and everyone writes down the agenda in the binder reminders. Jesse gets up and reads his amazing blog, and everyone claps. After a long pause, Jesse chooses me for the blog. This was a shocking betrayal akin to that of Brutus and Caesar. Yesterday, Jesse told me he wouldn't pick me for the blog. I sigh and get up, while Miri cackles at my predicament.
Ms. Nakada sets me up with the blog, but before I begin, it is time to go to the Book Fair. Everyone gets up and piles out the door and heads to the book fair. For some reason, only a few kids enter the Book Fair. Ms. Nakada tells the students to go in and look at books. A few people buy books, and a few kids buy candy.
After a short time, the class exits the Book Fair and returns to class. Ms. Nakada commands everyone to be quiet and plays "Redemption Song" by Bob Marley. The class discusses the meaning of the song. Ms. Nakada asks a few questions about vocabulary but I forgot them. Ms. Nakada asks a deep question about mental freedom. She asks us if Bob Marley would be attached to his phone. She asks if we are more or less free because of our cell phones. Sadie argues that phones give people freedom of communication. Nason tells us about how much he has learned from his phone. Ms. Nakada warns us about consumption and how we should use our technology for creative means. Jonah asks if Fortnite with the homies is good for you, and Ms. Nakada tells him that it depends on what Jonah thinks.
Ms. Nakada wraps up the song segment of class, and it is time for presentations. The first table for today is table F who is going to tell us about chapter six. They explain how a quote from page 153 explains how race can impact one's travel experience. Next up is Table G who wrote about Chapter Seven. They explain how Ramon helps his friends understand his past. After them is Table H. They explain how a quote from page 203 supports the idea that drew like feeling invisible in Paris. After Table H wraps up, we pack up and the day is over. *Mic drop.
