iReady - Reader's Workshop

HW - RJ 4.2 Read for 20-30 Mins. & Summarize

The sound of shuffling footsteps filled the room as everyone (attempted) to file into their seats. As the bell rang, everyone fell silent, Ms. Nakada putting on the Take a Minute video. Everyone settled down, class beginning as the video finished. Jaxon got up and shared his first blog, Ms. Nakada fixing any mistakes or typos. But when Jaxon had to choose someone to go next, he couldn't. So, the dreaded wheel was summoned, each victim that didn't go yet had their name typed on the wheel, sealing their fate. Some people tried to be discreet, putting their hand up subtlety, hoping to go unnoticed. The wheel span, everyone tensing in their seats before relaxing, grateful their name wasn't chosen on the fateful display. Except me. I was chosen. I knew I couldn't protest, couldn't rebel, so I walked up to the seat of the writer and began to type.

We began to do our work, Ms. Nakada guiding us in the task. It was an Independent Reading Plan, making goals and writing the format we'd record our reading on.  Ms. Nakada gave an example, displaying The Book of (More) Delights, which she started on July 1, 2024. Although, she didn't finish it, so she'd have to write down the date finished later. We also had to include a quiz score(if there is a quiz) on the book read and the word count of said book. Ms. Nakada then began to talk about reading books, and how we are at that age where we can read books adults are at this age. Nason then talked about how he wanted to read the entire trilogy of Lord of the Rings and Ms. Nakada then showed him the books, revealing what he's getting himself into. He talked about how the words are so small, and that it took him thirty minutes to read four pages. Ms. Nakada then spoke of how we could recommend books if we wanted, and people started to write them down on little orange slips of paper.

The class quieted down and everyone began to work, talking quietly. But their attention was brought to the back of the classroom when Ms. Nakada gave a tour of the class library. She showed the shelves of fiction, graphic novels, and nonfiction. Although the library was already enough for some, she mentioned getting access to the library while the librarian is away.

Unlike usual, we actually finished class on time, not in the middle of an assignment when the bell rang. We all packed up five minutes before the bell rang, giving me time to finish up the blog and pack up my own things.
