iReady 45 min. for the week!
As the bell rang and we made our way into class, we started to write down the agenda in our Binder Reminders. Luke read his blog and decided to choose the wheel for who will be picked. He first put in four of us, including me, but soon added more. As the wheel spun, I looked at the wheel, nothing really in my mind. As the wheel slowed down, it ended up landing on my name. I sat down in the blogger's seat and began to write.
Ms. Nakada told us to take out our Inside Out & Back Again books and we started to read. The room is quiet for the next few minutes, with the sound of nothing but papers being turned and keys being pushed. The slight silence is broken by Ms. Nakada telling us to put our books at the end of our tables and taking the pieces of paper there instead.
Ms. Nakada reminds us that we have Monday off because of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day. She instructs us to read the paper, explaining that it was written by Dr. King to middle-schoolers. Everybody starts reading and the room goes quiet again. Ms. Nakada once again breaks the silence, telling us to go to our Week 2 notes and asks us this week's question.
What is an Ally?
Sage things being an Ally is being respectful to people. Ezra explains what privilege is and gives some examples. Ms. Nakada adds that going to college is a privilege, and how only 1% of people end up at college. Ezra once again raises his hand, and says that an ally makes sure the state of privilege stays the same. Ms. Nakada double guesses that answer and Ezra rephrases his answer, now saying that being an ally is using your privilege for good.
Ms. Nakada shifts the class back to the lines. She talks about civil disobedience and plays a video showing of the lines.
"What Is Your Life's Blueprint?" Dr. King
This speech consists of three main parts:
- Dignity - Self Worth
- Be Excellent
- Beauty, Love, Justice
After we finished the Lines, Ms. Nakada pointed out that we have only nine minutes left. She told us to work on our words for 2025 or any other work that we haven't finished yet. She went around checking out Reading Journals for those who finished reading tonight's pages.
