Week 16: G-Q-Q-S-L

NaPoWriMo: Day 28

HW: Read/Write a poem a day

Start of Class

I walked into class and saw everyone seated. I made my way toward my seat and saw Marcel. He's back! I was used to having my own row. I got situated in my seat, taking out my binder reminder and pencil. Jesse brought out his daily Jolly Rancher. He gave Nuala and I one. Then, Cielle read her awesome blog. After she finished her blog, she told Ms. Nakada to put me on the wheel 10 times. Greg did this before, why are we doing it again!!? I hoped that I wouldn't get chosen, but the people around me thought otherwise. The wheel spun and spun, I thought there was a chance it would go on Ryan, but it didn't. I got chosen.

Week 16: G-Q-Q-S-L

15 minutes after class started, Ms. Nakada brought out the myPerspective grammar book. A book that the class didn't like very much. Nason, Truman, and Solomon helped us make our review list for testing. Ms. Nakada reminded us to be like water, go with the flow while taking the state tests.

Quote: "Poetry is not a luxury. It is a vital necessity to our existence." Audre Lorde

To begin the discussion, Ms. Nakada asked, "What is luxury?" Marcel and Truman responded with some examples. But, we suddenly got interrupted with "EARTHQUAKE. Drop cover and roll." An alarm went along with it. Everyone went under the tables except me, because I have to write this blog. :/ After the alarm ended, everyone went back to their chairs and we continued the discussion. Many people talked.

Question: Who are you as a person and a poet?

"Are you a rhyming poet? Are you a visual poet? Do you like imagery? What are some of your defining parts when you are writing poems?" Ms. Nakada asked the class this so we would start thinking about the question. People were writing their questions and I look to my left and I see Jesse staring at something while playing Rock-Paper-Scissors. I wonder who he could be staring at!? It was Ezra of course. Ms. Nakada broke the silence by asking, "Let's share what we wrote to our elbow partners." Since Marcel is my elbow partners he told me, "As a person he is optimistic and competitive." That's pretty cool Marcel. Ezra shared his response to the class as well.

NaPoWriMo: Day 28

"The Rose That Grew from Concrete" by Tupac Shakur. Ms. Nakada read it out, as well as Caidyn. Danny, Solomon, and Truman told us what the poem could be about. Truman was interrupted by a girl screaming outside. Danny said, "Defying the arts" and Solomon said "There's some rhyming in this poem." We finished the discussion on this short poem and we moved on to writing. We could either write a poem on instructions of falling in love, colors of a poem, or how can the end of this world birth of a new one? After the three minutes were up, Ezra volunteered to read his poem, it was about Nason's glasses. Marcel was after, he also wrote about sunglasses! Nason read his poem to Ms. Nakada. It was about her birthday. Happy Birthday Ms. Nakada! Lastly Sage, read her poem which is meaningful as always.

End of Class

The bell rang and everyone packed up. The blog has been stressful as always.
