Week 14: Quiz
NaPoWriMo: Day 11
[HW] Happy Spring Break!
Read/Write a poem a day!
The day started as we shuffled into class. It was a Friday, a minimum day, so instead of coming from nutrition, we were coming from math. As we settled in, we took a minute and Solomon read his wonderful blog. About halfway through, I realized he would probably pick me because I was the reason he was picked. At the end, he chose to do the wheel instead. BUT, he did put me on five times. I thought today will be rough, but then I remembered that today was a minimum day. Many people wanted to be put on the blog a lot, but by the end, I was picked.
Before I could start the blog, we started the quiz for week 14. It was pretty easy and the class was finished soon enough. Ms. Nakada then started to ask around the class for what they did for Poem in a Pocket Day. Some people forgot about it, including me, but good thing Ms. Nakada had extra poem note cards.
After going over the poems we shared, we transitioned to our poem for the day.
"The Orange" by Wendy Cope
At lunchtime I bought a huge orange
The size of it made us all laugh.
I peeled it and shared it with Robert and Dave--
They got quarters and I had a half.
And that orange it made me so happy,
As ordinary things often do
Just lately. The shopping. A walk in the park
This is peace and contentment. It's new.
The rest of the day was quite easy.
I did all my jobs on my list
And enjoyed them and had some time over.
I love you. I'm glad I exist.
We discussed that it is about being fun and being thankful for the small things. After discussing the poem, we started writing our own.
The Prompts:
Write an elegy for a part of you that has died. Then, write a poem imagining what might grow from it's grave.
Write a letter to your childhood best friend.
Write a nature poem.
Ms. Nakada also showed us a guide for nature journaling. The bell soon rang, and we left for nutrition.
