Week 15: GQQL

NaPoWriMo: Day 23

[BOOK BRACKET] elite eight

HW: Read/Write a poem a day

26 iReady Lessons

Everyone starts to enter class as I sit down next to Jonah. Soon after, he asks for a pencil. After watching our daily video, Jacob comes up to read his blog. Jacob picks me and I walk up to the bloggers' table while we spend a while correcting Jacob's blog 😑.

Lines:

We transition to our notebooks where we start reading, "I'm Going Back to Minnesota Where Sadness Makes Sense" by Danez Smith. Ms. Nakada, Ezra, and Jesse read the poem. We dissected the poem and said that the author is not a fan of the California weather because she is not used to the California sun. This is while Ezra and Jesse have a staring contest.

NaPoWriMo: Day 23:

We transition to NaPoWriMo where the prompts are:

Where do your joys live?

Write an oath to a dieti.

Write a book poem.

After spending some time writing our poems, some people start sharing. Ms. Nakada shares a poem from a former Emerson student. Soon after, many read their own poems.

Book Brackets and Poem Revisions:

Ms. Nakada tells everyone to vote on the Book Bracket Elite Eight and start revising poems. Solomon reads me his poem about Mr. Branda and Daniel reads me his poems about Mr. Kamm and Mr. Branda. After a few minutes, Ms. Nakada gives us strategies for poem revisions like reading it out loud, making it sparkle or shine, or cutting out some lines.

End of Class:

As the bell rings, everyone gets packed and is dismissed to the next class.
