Earth day today
Start of class
We started class with Blace finishing his blog. Then, Ms. Nakada played the take a minute short. After the short, Blace read his blog and put everyone on the wheel and me (Jacob) 10 times. Of course, I was picked, so I went up to the bloggers chair and started my blog.
Read a poem
Miri picked out the poem for today that was "Before" by Ada Limón. The class talked about how the poem relates to nostalgia, and Ezra said how he played a racing game on his old PS3, and Nason played Minecraft on his old XBOX 360. Then, Ms. Nakada said the three words that describe the poem and they were: change, family and nostalgia.
Middle of class
Ms. Nakada had us start on our poems and told everyone the prompt is a nature poem because today is earth day and the other prompts were about yourself as a planet and little joys. For about two minutes the whole class was silent until Ezra broke the silence. Then, Cielle read her dis poem on Ezra, Nason read his poem right after, and then Sage read her poem. Lastly, Luke read his poem.
End of Class
Ms. Nakada started to tell the class the different steps on revising your poems.
Step #1- Draft
Step #2- re-read + Revise
Step #3 type up poems / Titles / dedication / line- breaks / stanzas / capitalization / diction - word choice - feeling / tone / literary elements - alliteration, rhyme, rhythm, simile, metaphor, image, repetition, and form.
We packed up seconds before the bell, and then Ms. Nakada dismissed everyone by tables. We all went to fourth period.
